The Interreg Med Programme is a European Transnational Cooperation Programme that gathers 12 European countries from the northern shore of the Mediterranean region. In the current programme, Interreg MED organizes its architecture differently with respect to the previous periods and set up horizontal projects, which animate thematic communities of projects and help ensure the capitalisation of their results.

The Interreg MED Renewable Energy Community is configured by six modular projects focused on the promotion of renewable energies in the Mediterranean Area, making a special attention to rural and islands areas. Mediterranean Region is one of the most vulnerable areas to climate change and requires of effective and coordinated actions to prevent and adapt our territories into a resilient pathway.

Ensure resources supply is definitely one of the most important issues in this resilient adaptation process. Territorial planning, plays a fundamental role for this community, because is the governance tool that allows the coordinated organization of physical structure, dynamic metabolic processes with competitiveness and social innovation.



The Renewable Energy Community sets the basis of its second generation on the capitalisation of the Ecosystemic Transition Units in MED Region, as an alternative solution for energy transition with an ecosystemic approach, with the aim of promoting an effective integration of energy into territorial planning, and bring out new opportunities for local development. Multi-level coordination model is proposed to be developed, enhancing the coordination between all stakeholders.



The partnership is composed by 6 institutions; three of them formed part of the first generation. The specific roles expected from each one are the following:
